Day ten 11.20...My last day here, has so far been arguably my busiest. Day ten began by spending an hour removing DV tapes from their packaging, this was followed by doing some editing on some music videos that students have made, and as I type these very same music videos are in the process of being recorded onto a DV tape.

15.29...The afternoon has been a little less hectic than the morning, I have mostly been putting blank spaces on the DV tapes that I unpacked in the morning. We did have a slight scare when we copied the kids TV showreel onto a DV tape and the sound went wrong, but when we did it again it was fine. I have no idea what went wrong, and unless I find out in the next half hour or so, probably never will!!

Day Nine 12.39...This, my penultimate day here at Long Road has so far been very busy. Steve and I have been hard at work for the whole morning finishing off my title sequence. It has been very hard work and I am glad to have a short break, before my sociology taster day here in the afternoon.

Day Eight 14.12...I had a science exam this morning so my day at Long Road started later than usual, and no sooner than I'd walked through the door I was carrying rubbish to be recycled. This was a more ardous task than you might think, we had a lot to carry and things kept falling off our trolley. When I got back I was set to work, putting the finishing touches to the Showreel, and once I had finished that I started, and still am doing some more work on my opening sequence, using Livetype.

Day Seven 12.03...After a restful weekend, my first morning back has been spent working on my opening sequence, on 'Livetype'. So far, I have a rudimentery opening sequence but it has a lot of faults, although these will hopefully be ironed out with Steve's help in the afternoon.

13.35...This afternoon has been very busy, my day is almost over and I still haven't had time to see Steve and do some more work. I've been mainly working on putting music videos made by the students onto Finalcut and tidying them up a bit, adding titles etc.

Day Five 15.18...Thankfully, today I have been a bit luckier than I was yesterday. The day has mainly been filled by creating an introduction to a presentation of students work that will be shown at the Arts Picture House cinema. This is easier said than done and it took me much longer than I expected to create a prototype version, that was then shown to Steve. I decided that I would make the final version using Final Cut Pro (I had previously been using Final Cut Express), and I would also be using a text editing program called 'LiveType'. Steve taught me the basics of 'Livetype'. at first it was incredibly daunting but I was eventually left to use it by myself, and I am starting to get the hang of it.

Day Four 15.23....Today was a bit frustrating, there hasn't been that much to do and nothing seems to be working. At the start of the day me and Ryd managed to set up the projectors and looking back, that is probably the only thing I did today without some strange complication arising. Early on, we were also asked to copy some DVDs, but it kept going wrong and we still haven't finished, and probably won't have finished by the end of the day. Our bad luck continued when we tried to burn a DVD of students work we had made onto a DVD, but it refused to work and we ended up having to do it on a different computer. At the moment all I can do is hope that nothing else goes wrong today, which at the moment seems unlikely.

Day Three 12.01...Today I was asked to sit in on a media lesson here, to get a feel for what lessons are like at sixth form, I was also given a camera, so I could take pictures of some of the students at work and put them on here. The results were mixed, I am a bit of a novice with cameras and I think it showed at times with some appallingly blurred, and out of focus shots. Despite this I managed to fluke a few decent shots that you will see below...

Hi, this is Josh. I am a year ten student at Coleridge Community College on Radegund road, now part of the Parkside Federation. I have just begun my work experience as a media technician at Long Road and will be writing a blog about the sorts of things I am doing here.

My work began on Monday, two days ago. Most of the first day was spent learning how to use the editing program 'Final Cut'. I found this interesting and I'm sure that it will come in useful during my two weeks here, but I wasn't used to the long hours I worked here and by the end of the day I was very tired.

The second day was a lot more hands on, amongst other things I found myself using Final Cut to edit short films that the students here had made, and copying some DVDs. It was good to be doing something a bit more productive and I was also starting to get more used to the hours, and feeling a lot less tired at the end of the day.
